1. HUGH JACKMAN AND ANGELINA JOLIE
This is probably the most famous example of what’s becoming a growing phenomenon. In 2015, Hugh Jackman’s wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, said on the Today Show that her husband isn’t allowed to take on any projects with Angelina Jolie. While Furness undercut her comment with a “just kidding” and a nervous laugh, no one’s really sure just how serious she might’ve been. No matter what she meant, the comments probably aren’t too far from the minds of most Hollywood wives, as Jolie infamously became the “other woman” when she developed a relationship with Brad Pitt on the set of Mr. and Mrs. Smith in 2005. After that, Pitt left Jennifer Aniston for his costar, and all three celebs have been endless tabloid fodder ever since. With that kind of public home-wrecking on the cover of every grocery store magazine for a decade, we can’t really blame Furness for her “rule,” joke or not.
2. JENNIFER GARNER AND SCOTT FOLEY
Ever since the high-profile divorce of Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner made headlines in the summer of 2015, most folks have focused on learning the ins and outs of Ben’s alleged infidelity. Meanwhile, there’s another interesting story brewing on the other side of the pair: Jennifer Garner’s first husband, Scandal and Felicity actor Scott Foley isn’t allowed to reach out to offer his condolences. Why? A source told RadarOnline that one of the “relationship rules” in Foley’s current marriage with actress Marika Domińczyk is that neither spouse is allowed contact with an ex. As such, it goes without saying that we won’t be seeing Foley and Garner sharing the screen anytime soon, either.
3. KRISTEN STEWART AND RUPERT SANDERS
There was a time when Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, costars in the megahit Twilight movie franchise, were the hottest couple in Hollywood. That isn’t the case anymore, and a 2012 incident of Stewart cheating on Pattinson with director Rupert Sanders is to blame. It all happened when Sanders helmed the Stewart-starring Snow White and the Huntsman, and Us Weekly published photos of the director giving his lead actress some, uh, private acting lessons. With his lips. Anywho, Sanders’ wife at the time, model Liberty Ross, was none-too-pleased, and RadarOnline reported that year that Ross forbade Sanders from working with Stewart ever again while they worked on their marriage. While Ross and Sanders divorced in 2014, it’s pretty likely that no production companies will greenlight any projects that put Sanders and Stewart on the same set ever again. That kind of controversy just isn’t worth the price.
4. IAN SOMERHALDER AND NINA DOBREV
Okay, this one has some twisty, sticky logic, but stay with us. Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev, stars of the Vampire Diaries, dated between 2010 and 2013. In 2014, Somerhalder started dating Sleepy Hollow actress Nikki Reed. In early April of 2015, Dobrev announced via Instagram that she was leaving the show. Later that month, Somerhalder and Reed married. Then, only a few months later, Dobrev and Somerhalder won the Teen Choice Award for “Best Kiss” for their roles on Vampire Diaries. Only when it came time to accept, Somerhalder wasn’t there, leaving Dobrev to take the award on her own, and breaking the convention of the two actors replicating their on-screen kiss while accepting the award. CelebrityDirtyLaundry.com claims that Reed banned her husband from attending the awards show, allegedly too jealous to let her man get too close to his ex-flame and on-screen kissing partner. Did Dobrev get pushed off the show to keep Somerhalder and his wife happy? Did Reed really demand that Somerhalder stay home from the awards show just to avoid a potential on-stage reunion? Does anyone actually watch Vampire Diaries? These are the big questions, people.
5. KENDALL JENNER AND KIM KARDASHIAN
Okay, we know what you’re thinking: “how can Kim Kardashian be banned from working with Kendall Jenner?” You’re right, that’s a crazy thing to imagine, since Kim Kardashian doesn’t actually work in any meaningful capacity. But it’s true! Apparently Kendall told Love Magazine that she’s told Kim that she isn’t allowed to come to any of her modeling events, because she doesn’t want her big sister’s spotlight to overshadow what she’s trying to do. “I want to be high fashion,” she told the magazine. “I want to be taken seriously.” And you know what? Keeping all of the Kardashians as far away from you as possible is a pretty good way to ensure a long, healthy career. Unless you have aspirations to be a vapid TV garbage clown, that is.
